Main Components And Operation Steps of Rotating Evaporator

The rotating evaporator is the equipment for the purification and distillation test. Through constant temperature heating, the film is formed by rotating under negative pressure, and then condensed and recovered to achieve the effect of purification and separation.

The product can be combined with a circulating water rotary evaporator pump, vacuum pump for rotary evaporator, low temperature circulation (vacuum) pump, circulating cooler, constant temperature circulator, low temperature coolant circulating pump, and so on.

Rotating evaporator is mainly used for continuous distillation of a large number of volatile solvents under vacuum conditions. Especially for the concentration of the extraction solution and the distillation of the receiving solution during chromatographic separation, the reaction products can be separated and purified.

Main components of rotating evaporator

The vacuum system of the rotating evaporator can make a simple water suction pump immersed in a cold water bath or a mechanical vacuum pump with a cooling tube.

Evaporation and condensing glass assemblies can be simple or complex, depending on the objectives of the distillation and the characteristics of the solvent to be distilled. Different commercial devices will contain some basic features, and modern devices usually add functions such as digital control vacuum pumps, digital display of heating temperature, and even steam temperature.

It mainly comprises the following components:
1. Rotating motor, which drives the evaporation bottle containing the sample through the rotation of the motor;
2. Evaporation tube, evaporation tube has two functions, first, it plays the role of sample rotation support shaft, and then through the evaporation tube, a vacuum system to absorb the sample;
3. Vacuum system, which is used to reduce the pressure of the rotating evaporator system;
4. Fluid heating pot, which is usually applied to heat sample with water;
5. Condensate tube, which uses double snake condensation or other condensates such as dry ice, acetone condensation sample;
6. Condensed sample collection bottle, the sample is cooled and enters the collection bottle. Mechanical or motor mechanical devices are used to quickly lift evaporation bottles in heating pots.

Operation steps of rotating evaporator
1. There are two external joints on the condenser which are connected with cooling water. One end is connected with water, the other end is connected with water, and the tap water is generally connected. The lower the condensing water temperature, the better the effect is.

2. Before starting the machine, turn the speed control knob left to the minimum, press the power switch indicator light, then slowly turn to the right to the required speed, generally large evaporation bottle for medium, low speed, high viscosity solution with lower speed.

Attention notes on rotating evaporator

It is better to decompress first, and then start the motor to rotate the distilled flask. In the end, we should stop first and then pass through the atmosphere to prevent the distilled flask from falling off in rotation.
As a heat source of distillation, it is often equipped with a corresponding constant temperature tank. And there are some operative tips:
1. Glass parts should be taken lightly and should be washed and dried before loading.
2. Apply a layer of vacuum grease to each grinding port, sealing ring, and joint before installation.
3. The heating tank must be added water before electrification, no dry burning is allowed.
4. RE-52B must screw into the safety hole to avoid damage to the flask.
5. If the vacuum cannot be pumped up, it is better to check:(1) Each joint, whether the interface is sealed; (2) Sealing ring, sealing surface is valid; (3) Whether the vacuum grease between the spindle and the sealing ring is well coated; (4) Air leakage of the vacuum pump and its tubing; (5) The presence of cracks, fragmentation and damage in glass parts.
6. The rotating evaporator must be carried by the surveyor, not collided or inverted.

Because of the fine and tight structure of the rotating evaporator, if the operation is not proper, it may make the rotating evaporator damage or cause structural changes and reduce the accuracy and shorten the service life of the rotating evaporator.
